Fred In History
After a stellar career at Florida State, Fred Biletnikoff was
selected by Oakland in the second round of the 1965 AFL draft.
The consummate receiver, Fred Biletnikoff, caught more passes (589)
and scored more touchdowns (76) than any other Raider in history. Fred
had excellent hands, fluid moves and deceptive speed. Regarded by many
as the most reliable receiver ever to play for the Oakland Franchise,
he
was and is still today a perfectionist and tireless worker who always
gives
the most of himself.
When asked about coaching for the team he played for, he said "I don't
like to bring up the past, that was then and this is now, but I want them to have my same work ethics. So many things in today's
game have changed, evey receiver is different. Each one brings their own special talent to the game; although, one thing stays
constant, nothing less than perfection will do. Just get it done."
Fred responded
enthusiastically to the creation of the award bearing his name by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, "I am honored
to have such a prestigious award bear my name." He continued, "I am privileged that my past achievements on the field now
are represented by an award that will recognize talented young college football receivers and benefit youth services and scholarships."
