In 1994, San Jose, California was the focal point
of the Sumo world. A special visit was arrange for a Sumo Basho to be held in San Jose which included the wrestlers
and officials of the Japanese Sumo Federation. This was the first and only time that the Federation agreed on doing an
event outside of Japan here in the USA. This was arranged only through Mr. Yoshi Uchida, the director of USA Judo and
a sucessful Silicon Valley Japanese businessman .
The artist was commissioned to create this rendition of
the grand final match which was between the great sumo champions, Akibono and Kuniski.
"This was a experience of a lfetime, not only was I introduce to
a sporting Japaneese tradition of hundred of years, but had the privilege of witnessing and being introduce to these near
