This work is a result of a commission from
the San Jose Sharks organization. They wanted the artist to create a concept and a image that would be favorably
accepted by the Hispanic community in the introduction of professional hocky in Northern California. Delgado decided in order
to do this he would reach into the proud indigenous ancestery. He reseached the symbols of the shark from
various indigenous people reaching from Alaska to South America. Then he incorporated these designs into a reconizable and honored symbol, the famous Aztec Calandar.
He then incorporated the Shark logo in the middle to appear as stone with a terra cotta brushing. The inscription "Arriba
Los Tiburones" was a slogan used by the sports writer, Mark Purdy, of the San Jose Mercury News in his reference
to the Sharks. This design proved to be a widely popular and was a great success in introducing the San Jose
Sharks to the Latino population.
